The Phoenix girls spent an entire game fighting back. Eventually, the battle paid off for the Pirates in a 34-33 win over Siuslaw during the Sky-West Crossover Challenge at North Valley High School on Friday afternoon.
Trailing from early on, PHS took the lead when Taylor DeVry connected on a free throw with .9 seconds to play. DeVry, who had been fouled on a three-point shot, deliberately missed the second shot as time expired.
DeVry scored nine of her game-high 22 points in the final quarter as the Pirates rallied from a 23-16 deficit. She added four assists, four steals and five rebounds. Delani Parent grabbed nine rebounds while Josie Bolstad led the Phoenix defense with four blocked shots.
The Pirates were also on action Saturday, falling to North Bend 38-22. PHS (3-10 on the season) returns to action Tuesday when it visits Hidden Valley.
