Too tall, too fast, too strong.
At least for a quarter, the Phoenix girls' basketball team overcame those sort of factors to stick with Hidden Valley. Eventually, the host Mustangs were too much of everything to slow down in a 78-22 Skyline Conference loss for the Pirates on Tuesday night.
PHS had some early success, leading 10-7 midway through the first quarter. HV opened a 31-17 halftime lead before outscoring the Pirates 25-2 in the third quarter.
Bella Lopez scored a team-high eight points while Taylor DeVry added seven for Phoenix (3-11 overall), which returns to action Friday when it hosts North Valley.
