The Phoenix girls' basketball continued to put up a battle every night.

While the Pirates fell short in a 52-45 non-conference loss at Ashland on Tuesday night, they gave the host Grizzlies all they could handle. PHS trailed 34-33 after three quarters before Ashland pulled away over the final eight minutes.

Taylor DeVry scored 16 points, Maggie Carrillo 13 and Bella Lopez 12 for the Pirates (2-9 on the season), who return to action on Friday when they take on Siuslaw in a 1:45 pm game at the Sky-West Crossover at North Valley.
