A fast start did not lead to a fast finish for the Phoenix volleyball team on Tuesday night.
After winning the first two sets, the Pirates fell 3-2 to visiting Douglas in a non-conference match at PHS.
The Pirates led throughout 25-18 and 25-20 wins to open the night. They fell 25-20 and 25-13 in the next two sets to set up a fifth set where they led most of the way before coming up just short in the 15-13 loss.
Phoenix (1-2 on the season) was led by Sophia Tringolo with six kills and five blocks. Katelyn Hanson added five kills.
The Pirates return to action Saturday at the Cascade Tournament in Turner.
