The chance to earn a play-in opportunity didn't materialize for the Phoenix volleyball team on Tuesday night.
Needing a victory over visiting Henley to advance to this weekend's Class 4A play-in round, the Pirates dropped a three-set verdict to the Hornets, falling 25-10, 25-13, 25-15.
Seniors Lexi Smith, Avery Reneau and Kassidy Calhoun played their final match for Phoenix, which finished the season 4-6 in Skyline Conference play. The Pirates tied for third in the conference with North Valley, who advanced to the play-in round based on a season sweep of Phoenix in two matches.
